From ITTF statutes that has the rules section 2
==============
2.4 THE RACKET
2.4.1 The racket may be of any size, shape or weight but the blade shall be flat and rigid.
==============
What this means is that the blade (non-rubber part of the racket) can be of any thickness or width or length or any shape
Only the thickness of the rubber is regulated

To survive in the 40+ plastic ball only era there are few critical requirements for away from the table choppers
One of them is that they should only be using at least large blades (170 mm by 170 mm) , if not super large blades (at least 173 mm by 173 mm)
But such blades are not commercially made because the market is so small since choppers have been all but exterminated on the men's sides & it won't be long before ITTF adds more rules & regulations to their (click link >) 14 rule and regulation changes since 1977 to remove choppers on women's side as well.

Re: Are large thick blades approved ?
Choppers are such ignorant fools that when manufacturers call mid size (165 mm by 165 mm) or semi large blades (167 mm by 167 mm) as over sized blades they are stupid enough to believe that. They don't realize the fact that manufacturers are masking & cleverly hiding the fact that there are NO commercially made large or super large blades
