Using long pips as primary forehand rubber - a viable option ?

Post by Sitora »

I am in my 50s and do not loop .
I mostly chop both sides & pick hit occasionally on backhand
Should I use long pips as a forehand rubber ?

Yes.....as long as it is a frictioned actual long pips
Unfortunately none exists. Closest is Magic 77

Also you want a frictionless wide pips with thick sponge on your backhand side for pick hitting
Again no such rubber exists after the 2008 frictionless pips ban.
This ban was primarily aimed by Scholer at Dr.Neubauer's frictionless slim pips but it also took out rubbers like the Butterfly Resilon , probably the best one

You will also have to twiddle a whole lot because wide pips on backhand is the biggest weakness
You have to mask it ny twiddling constantly to prevent opponents' attacking your backhand when you use wide pips there because you really cannot do much with it in terms of spin creation (generation) or reversal ........unless you can attack with flat hit a lot but you can mix this selectively with using long pips side on backhand after twiddling
