What does it mean when the tabletennis ball is marked 40+ as compared to just 40

The 40 marking on the ball means it is the more spinny celluloid ball released after 2000
The 40+ marking on the ball means it is the less spinny plastic ball released after 2014
Both balls were approved for ITTF tournament use till 2022 though ITTF unoffcially forced all tournaments to use the plastic ball
In 2022, ITTF made the celluloid ball illegal for its official tournaments
