Apparently short pips. B-1 does seem to have rough pip tops. Rough would mean less friction, I'd think..

As usual you thought wrong but in this case to be fair, you are not the only one.
This is one of the biggest (wrong) myths in table tennis

When the top of the pips is rough, the rubber has MORE friction NOT less
This is the whole theory behind the frictionless pips ban of 2008
These were mostly rubbers with glass smooth pip tops & with so little friction
That is why they are called frictionLESS

Compared to frictionless rubbers , a frictioned rubber like Feint Long has rough pip top, in fact sort of tiny pips on top of each pip
These rubbers will have more spin .
This is only significant in case of long pips though.

For short pips this is far less significant because short pips is the most spinless of all rubber types & sits in the dead center of the spin continuum (as compared to long pips which sits on the farthest most bottom side with maximum back spin

To understand and remember this a little better, consider a frictionless anti , which has glass like slippery surface
The top of a frictionless pip is also like that.

In contrast the frictioned pips have a rough surface and are somewhat (but not exactly) like a sticky inverted & can create the most backspin against the loop. This is why Feint Long (1 or 2 or 3) & KTL Starnger are the most (back)spinny rubbers on LARC (There may be some Euro long pips with rough top)
