This may be a silly question but I've never played with pips before and would like to try chopping with long pips. I have many blades but they are all carbon offensive blades. I would prefer not to buy a new blade for the long pips as it's just experimental. Is chopping with long pips doable with a carbon blade? It seems like most choppers use slower all wood blades.

Also, of the current blades that I have which do you think would be the best to use for chopping with long pips?

-Timo Boll ALC
-Viscaria
-Xiom AZX
-Tibhar Kinetic Speed
-Stiga Dynasty Carbon
-DHS HL5
-Viscaria Super ALC
-Zhang Jike SZLC

Thanks for your input
First of all there are no long pips in ITTF 's version of top spin only Olympic table tennis
So you are asking about social pips listed on ITTF LARC that are totally useless in the 40+ plastic ball ONLY era due to the
(click link >) 14 rule and regulation changes since 1977 to oppress choppers.

So that said, you want to use ITTF slim pips or non-ITTF long pips on the many fancy expensive dumb carbon blades you listed above.
(click link >) dumb blades are not suitable for modern choppers , in fact they are the worst. But if you are a classic chopper who chops both sides you can use an all wood blade but no such blades for choppers are not available because they are not big enough (see below)
But since you are only experimenting that is different.
You would need an OX rubber which you can then attach to a 0.5 mm or so dampening sponge
This is the best possible solution if you do not want to order a custom chopper smart blade (there are a few production smart blades for at the table blockers but there are no production smart blades for choppers because they are not big enough. Must be at least 170 mm in head length and width)

You can get dampening sponges here
Click link > DMS Der-MaterialSpezialist

I have also seen some on Al Express

The good thing is defensive blades are much more affordable compared to offensive ones with carbon.
I am afraid you do not even know what the specifications are for a defensive blade in the 40+ plastic ball era after the
(click link >) 14 rule and regulation changes since 1977 to oppress defenders

Get any 7 ply off+ blade which will give high dwell time.
First of all the OP (pdxpong) does not want to buy any new blades
Second why would an offensive blade give a high dwell time.
7 ply blades are usually meant for wide pips hitters (with minimal dwell time)
Third you may want to investigate what (click link >) dumb blades and smart blades , (click link >) slim or long pips etc mean, to start with studying various posts in this forum

Cheers

pdxpong ,
If you are just experimenting , I would highly recommend a (click link >) comparison test between (click link >) ITTF LARC social rubbers used in
(click link >) Top spin ONLY Olympic version fake table tennis against non-ITTF rubbers used for all spin diversity table tennis

None of this blades can be used for chopping.
HELLO !!!
As usual piligrim does not read what he is answering to.
The OP (pdxpong) is not looking to buy a new blade . He or she just wants to know the best way to experiment chopping with is already large collection expensive blades. You want him to blow more money of useless dumb social blades used by choppers like you in the ITTF's Top Spin Only world of Olympic fake table tennis

you need defensive blade. Most popular Victas Koji Matsushita, Diode V, 08X
Yeh but the problem is piligrim , you do not know what a real defensive blade is
I realize there are no production defensive blades in the ITTF's Top Spin Only world of Olympic fake table tennis and so your advice is based on what is in ITTF's Top Spin Only world of Olympic fake table tennis and not in all spin diversity table tennis.
Blades like Matsushita or Joo Saehyuk are utterly useless even for a blocker let alone a chopper , because they are all dumb blades to start with.
A modern chopper needs a smart blade that is also large (at least 170 mm by 170 mm).

I realize Joo SaeHyuk is the real goat of all of table tennis & Koji Matsushita is the President of Victas.
But these two have no clue about what am amateur chopper needs as compared to a pro chopper.
Joo SaeHyuk has a small excuse because he was just starting during the 1998 Durban Aspect Ratio Reduction Massacre of 14 or so choppers but Koji Matsushita has no excuse whatsoever.
