Why have manufacturers like Gewo, Andro, Tibhar, and Yinhe recently started producing asymmetrical blades?
If you play in ITTF's version of top spin only Olympic table tennis, a dumb blade with identical layers on both sides may be sufficient for most .
But some players may benefit from smart blades such as ZLC outer layer on forehand for power looping type play & ALC inner layer for backhand for more controlled looping play .
Of course you can twiddle & do the opposite

However if you play all spins diversity table tennis domain you definitely need a smart blade
Too many designs & too many styles to explain here

BTW smart blades have been around from many different manufacturers for a long time

Also the correct jargon is not "asymmetrical" blade. It is "smart" blade

Why would someone who can afford to buy two different rubbers choose to use such a product?
It is not about what one can afford.
It is about the functional value of the blade

Rubber alone is not sufficient to do the job

If you have vastly different playstyles on forehand & backhand , then a smart blade is the only choice
