Texas State Championships 2024 - Very confusing format

Post by Corner Loop »

I was looking at this tournament in Fort Worth Texas
Texas State Championships - players by event

It does not look like a State Championships
It looks like any other regular tournament with Open & Rated events
Is this really a State Championships ?
I donot understand

Or is this just a qualifying event for US Nationals 2024 in Huntsville Alabama , where you get some free entry or something ?

I have to agree with you .
A state championship would have events like

Men's Championship
Women's Championship
Master's (age 40+) championship
Senior's (Age 60+) championship
Boys (age 18 and under) championship
Girls (age 18 and under) championship
Doubles

Or something like that

It makes no sense to see rated events in a State Championship (unless there are lots of tables available & event runs over 2 days or something)
But in a big state like Texas it would make more sense to hold even

Boys Cadet (age under 14)
Girls Cadets (age under 14)

There are lots of children under 14 taking lessons in TT academies in places like Katy, Houston, Plano like that

They changed the brochure completely LOL

The Omnipong brochure now says USATT Texas Championships
But the Omnipong players list says the event name is Texas State Championships

Also the new brochure does not say if anyone can play or whetehr this is Texas State Championships & if only Texas Residents (& Students & military personnel stationed in Texas) are eligible.

It will be crazy if this is indeed a Texas State Championships but a non resident registers on Omnipong drives 100s of miles only to be told sorry Texas Residents only ..........because the brochure does not define any residency eligibility criteria for the tournament, if there is any , since it is called a state tournament on Omnipong player list but not on the tournament brochure
