Jan_ from Greece making a huge mistake Re: Need help choosing first short pips!

Hey,
I've been thinking of trying short pips for a while now but I don't know much about them.
I'm looking for something that does everything decently. Easy blocking on the table, chopping from mid distance, and to easily play drives on the table. The drive part is why I'm not going for long pips, tried them, didn't work out. I couldn't get used to not having an inverted-like drive. As for the chopping part, I'll figure it out, long pips are good for that, but suffer everywhere else in my game.

I'm on a budget too, so Chinese pips would be great. I like soft sponges too. I've seen so far the 802-40 Mystery III, 802 Mystery III, Legend 802 and Uranus Pro going for good prices.

The last one I played was Stiga Clippa, years and years ago. I really loved that rubber, it felt soft, nice and slow, and super easy to play. Any reccomendations?

In case it matters, they'll be put on a BTY Korbel Euro.

Thanks in advance!

Huge mistake .
Click on link below to read full details why wide (stiff) pips is the most useless as a backhand rubber

Wide - stiff pips is not a backhand rubber

Note 1:- Wide (stiff) pips is what players mistakenly refers to as short pips. ITTF calls then "out" in its LARC to confuse the issue because all pips are "out" to start with

Note 2 :- Slim (flex) pips are what ITTF deceptively refers to as "long" in its LARC to confuse & mislead pips players. There are no "long" pips in ITTF . Long pips were originally banned in 1977 , confirmed again in 1983, confirmed once more in 1998 & conformed again 8 more times after 1998

Slim (flex)pips with sponge is a far superior choice for that .
Wide (stiff) pips is a rubber with very limited scope .
If you had not noticed, ask yourself this
How many shakehanders even pros, use wide (stiff) pips on the forehand these days.

Yes wide (stiff) pips is the best rubber for your forehand if you are talented enough to use it.
Even most pros are not & almost all amateurs are not.
In fact wide (stiff) pips on forehand and OX slim (flex) pips on backhand can be one o fthe most lethal playing styles

Wide (stiff) pips may work better for a few more penhoders as there had been a few world champions, men & women
Wide (stiff) pips has so many weaknesses for almost all players even on the forehand

I TOTALLY agree.
If you look at the chart in the link above, you are better off using some sort of medium pips with sponge on the backhand.
But wide (stiff) pips is a bid no no

!
Chinese rubbers are a wise choice compared to overpriced Japanese & European rubbers which are only good for the pros
Chinese rubbers are more than sufficient for almost all amateurs

But 802 & Uranus are good forehand rubbers

Consider testing a whole range of Chinese medium pips & slim (flex) pips rubbers

You can try medium pips like Friendship RITC rubbers like 799 or 837 with sponge.
Or Yinhe Pluto (MOXA version only . old version is de-approved)
Or DHS Sharping , Sharping 2, Dragonow or DHS-Sharping-Nittaku , DHS-Nittaku-C7
Or slim (flex) pips like Yinhe 955 with sponge which is one of the best all around rubbers

There may be few more. Check Ali Express
Also verify first on ITTF LARC if you will play in ITTF events.

Of course there are many ITTF de-approved & unapproved rubbers if you do not want to be an ITTF slave

Jan_ ,

Foe the most part, wide (stiff) pips & anti are just gimmick rubbers
Manufacturers will try to seduce you with lies that any amateur can play with them but fact remains that even very very few pros can use them

Anti & wide (stiff) pips may work for some older players on the forehand if they never learned to loop when they were young or some health or disability issues prevents then from looping. Same for para players.

Of course the robotNazi controlled ITTF wants everyone to use only wide (stiff) pips or anti but not slim (flex) pips (or real non-ITTF long pips) because that would be less of a nuisance for the booster supremacists who control the ITTF

Here is one appraoch

Open ITTF LARC

Select OUT & Long rubbers

Select Chinese manufacturers

See which medium pips are listed in either groups and are also Chinese
Because many of these medium pips are listed in either category on the LARC

See if you can buy a bunch of them for discounts with some dealer or like ALiExpress

Try them out
