Top spin ONLY (Olympic) players use dumb blades and dumb rackets
All spins (Diversity) TT players use smart blades and smart rackets

To understand this , you first need to understand some even more basic but grossly overlooked concepts
Most racket sports are forehand dominant . Table tennis is a little more than others.
(If you refuse acknowledge this and want to live in a fantasyland of backhand loops , this may not appeal to you.)

That said, there are two dominant (or primary) forehand styles > looping & flat-hitting.
There are two dominant (or primary) backhand styles > blocking and chopping
(Note :- Push & lob is not included in this discussion)

Looping & flat-hitting are secondary backhand styles
Blocking and chopping are secondary forehand styles

Blocking and chopping are far less secondary on the forehand compared to looping and flat hitting on the backhand.
This is the basic nature of biomechanics and the human condition. It is not your fault if you cannot loop or flat hit consistently on the backhand.
But the bigger problem is refusing to acknowledge this and trying to force the issue.
You must come out of denial and admit the fact that 90% of players cannot have a consistent and powerful backhand loop
(Note :- Just being able to just "drive" or "roll" the ball on your backhand does not qualify you as a backhand looping legend..........in fact two thirds of players probably cannot do even that consistently on their backhand)

Take a look at all the postings I made in this topic.

Based on that , here is the difference.

Olympic table tennis is top spin only table tennis because the primary focus is on Loop (top spin) style of play there is using smooth rubber dumb rackets on dumb blades .

Real table tennis is played using smart rackets on smart blades to play different styles of spin
1. No spin style . This usually involves using wide stiff pips on forehand and flat hitting attack style. I is also known as block and smach style when more specifically applied to TPG players
2. Modern defender style > This involves using loop rubbers (spinny inverted rubbers) on the forehand and high friction chop rubbers (actual long flex pips) on the backhand for away from table chopping
3. Block defender style > This refers to players using block rubbers (anti spin) or chop block rubbers (frictionless actual long flex pips) to play a close to the table block and loop style (if forehand rubber is spinny inverted) or smash and block style (if forehand rubber is wide pips , though this style is much harder & rarely seen)

So as you can see , all spins table tennis allows variety of playing styles and all types of spin.
But Olympic table tennis wants everyone to play top spin oriented table tennis with top spinning from both sides

This whole thing makes no sense to me at all.
All 4 rubber types are fully approved for use in Olympic table tennis.
So if what you are saying is true , ITTF would have banned all rubbers other than spinny inverted (loop) rubber long ago.
I think they allow all 4 types of rubber because ITTF is amazing wonderful corruption free organization that believes in diversity of playing styles.
There had been all kinds of playing styles allowed in the Olympics

That is an excellent delusion. OOPS I meant an excellent question

This is what ITTF wants all the pips players to believe & ITTF has done an excellent job brainwashing the pips players for almost 50 years.
(Don' t feel bad if you are one. Because I am the most brainwashed. Not once but 4 times till only last year but that is a different long story for another time.)

Anyway the reason ITTF has not banned the three types of rubbers other than spinny inverted is not because ITTF actually believes in diversity of playing styles . It is because ITTF does not want all spins players to start their own separate association like the
(click link >) robotNazis threatened to do in 1995 to get the spein glue ban repealed in a a matter of months.

Assume you are the ITTF. Would like the all spins players to start a separate association and dilute your total control over the sport of table tennis ? Would you want the all spin association to cut into your revenue stream from sponsors and from the cash cow Olympics ?
What if all spin players start demanding entry as a separate sport or worse replace top spin only table tennis ?
What if the all spins players stat demanding reparation payments for all pro and semi-pro choppers exterminated by the
(click link >) 14 rule and regulation changes since 1977 to severely limit pips & tilt the playing ridiculously in favor of top spin only playing style ?
