I am an intermediate player
My style is close to the table
I mostly block on backhand and can top spin on forehand
I am using DHS Hurricane Neo both sides.
My blade is Yinhe shakehand. I do not know model as I never took rubber out. It was given to me by a relative
Many players told me that I would be better off using anti or long pips on backhand as i only block on backhand
Because I have an elbow issue and I cannot rotate my hand properly for backhand top spin
But cannot decide long pips or anti
Any assistance helps
Deciding between slim pips (ika long pips) & antispin rubbers

Re:Deciding between slim pips (ika long pips) & antispin rubbers , a historical perspective
I hope this following historical information helps
Anti spin arrived in the sport in in early 1970s with this original initially intended purpose > To help away from the table choppers to handle the heavy loops from attacking style players.
But once actual long pips (few of them longer than 2.99 mm) arrived a few years later in mid 1970s , anti-spin rubbers became a useless joke. It was kind of like AI putting thousands of software engineers and other workers worldwide these days.
ITTF quickly realized the dangers of actual long pips to loopers with the rise of Chinese choppers like Liang Huang etc., but most especially Liang Geliang. So ITTF quickly jumped in and banned all actual long pips at the Birmingham 1977 BGM by limiting the maximum allowed length of long pips to 2.00 mm (this limit was increased by a slight margin to 2.05 mm at the Busan 2024 AGM, but strictly for political reasons)
The robotNazi controlled ITTF always knew the enormous threat that the choppers posed to loopers .
Eberhard Scholer hated the now slim pips (after 1977 ban on actual long pips and was supported fully by Rev. Larry Hodges in USA as well) as well as his business rival Dr.Neubauer. So he continually tried to steer any player who tried to use slim pips towards anti-spin rubbers because antispin rubbers were useless for choppers against loopers.
The tit for tat battle between the two business rivals Dr.Neubauer & Scholer continued. Scholer was a powerful member of what is mot probably the most powerful ITTF committee , the equipment committee of the ITTF. He continued to pass rules and regulations to limit Dr.Neubauer slim pips rubbers . But now that Scholer has left the ITTF committee , Dr.Neubauer has continued this cat and muse game by developing anti spin rubber now exploiting the lack of friction limit (COF) of 0.5 that is only valid for slim pips but not anti-spin rubbers.
Keep in mind that deception, disruption etc. were NEVER the initially intended original purpose of introduction of neither anti or original long pips in early to mid 1970s . They both have become WMDs (Weapons of Mas Disruption) ever since but away from the choppers of casualties of collateral damage in this war of pips and anti.
If you want to understand how powerful a weapon the banned (after 1977) actual long pips are compared to antispin to choppers , just think consider the following factors
1. No pro chopper in top 10 (or even top 100) using anti ever existed after actual long pips arrived in mid 1970
2. ITTF passed change after change ( these (click link >) 14 changes since 1977 ) to limit the power of long pips & later slim pips after 1977
3. ITTF continues to deceptively call slim pips as long pips to deceive &mislead the choppers
4. Even with no COF friction limits on anti spin rubbers but with limit of 0.3 on ANY pips , even the ITTF slim pips are superior for close to the table blockers until the later arrival of frictionless pips. ( Of course it won’t be too long before ITTF cracks down on anti as well to protect the illegally boosting robotNazis)
So if you want to decide between anti and long pips even as a close to the table player , the obvious answer is slim pips even with ITTF LARC.
So why is this new rage about anti rubbers with the new glamour girl of anti , Sabine Winer etc. ?
1. (click link >) RobotNazis are more accepting of anti players because robotNazis KNOW antis still are less of a nuisance. This is why anti players are even known as (click link >) honorary loopers
2. The learning curve is very steep for ITTF slim pips and non-ITTF actual long pips. It is somewhat easier to learn to use anti compared to slim or long pipe which may take months to years to learn to even use at a decent level if not master then with advanced techniques such as twiddling
Actual long pips & even ITTF skim pips are far better for close to the table players and this is why robotNazi controlled ITTF does not want players to use slim or long pips
Of course anti for away from the chopping is not even a consideration despite the enormous 14 rule & regulation limits since 1977 placed on long and then slim pips
I change the topic name.

An equipment dealer like Scholer having been of all places on the ITTF equipment committee for so long was one of the most sick and monumental conflicts of interests OMG
