If you play in ITTF's version of top spin only Olympic table tennis, a dumb blade with identical layers on both sides may be sufficient for most .arashfarshadi wrote: on Thursday July 2 , 2026 at 6:59 AM #1
Why have manufacturers like Gewo, Andro, Tibhar, and Yinhe recently started producing asymmetrical blades?
But some players may benefit from smart blades such as ZLC outer layer on forehand for power looping type play & ALC inner layer for backhand for more controlled looping play .
Of course you can twiddle & do the opposite
However if you play all spins diversity table tennis domain you definitely need a smart blade
Too many designs & too many styles to explain here
BTW smart blades have been around from many different manufacturers for a long time
Also the correct jargon is not "asymmetrical" blade. It is "smart" blade
