So what Michael Zhuang is saying that just about any player can pick up a long pips racket and gain 300 rating points without any training REALLY ?
In fact at lower skill levels a non-long-pips player will indeed have lot more trouble against a long pips player. But it has nothing to do with long pips. It has lot more to do with the near total lack of skill on the part of non-pips player
But at internediate level, around 1500 , the skill needed to use long pips as well as to play against long pips increases. So it is ridiculous to claim that a 1500 player can pick up a long pips racket & immediately going to be 1800 in a day or a week or even a month (in most cases).
