I'm looking for someone who can share their opinion on the Victas Koji Matsushita Defensive Rare and the new version. Which of the two versions do they recommend and if there are any differences?

Does not matter whether it is an old or new versions.
They are both garbage (click link >) dumb blades
Companies like Butterfly & Stiga and Victas (which is actually TSP which is as old as Butterfly) are over-obsessed with tradition .
They may partially understand what a defensive player's needs but the defensive blade market has shrunk to almost nothing
And from a business viewpoint it is not worth wasting their R&D on a tiny market segment (choppers)

Are you an at the table blocker o r chop blocker or away from the table chopper ?

if you are a blocker check this (click link >) smart blades data base

If you are an away from the table (modern defender chopper) , you need to have custom smart blade made by a custom blade maker.
Even if you are a classic defender and can use a dumb blade , you need a large enough blade that doe not exist among production blades & you need to have a custom blade maker make you a blade

Because there exists no (smart) blades in the 40+ plastic ball ONLY era after the
(click link >) 14 rule and regulation changes since 1977 to exterminate choppers
