The first and most impotant and simple thing to understand is this
A person's ranking number is the opposite or inverse of his or her ratings number in any system.
Lot of players seem to think thee words can be used interchangeablu but you cannot , as it really confuses the issue
For example in Men Singles Rankings
2024 Week #47 - November 19th
1. Wang Chuqin 7325
14. Alexis Lebrun 1843
219 Carlo Rossi 65
As you can see lower a persons rating number, the higher is his or her points (Wang Chuqin)
Or higher a persons ranking number, the lower that person;s points (Carlo Rossi)
However in ITTF system the points doesn't seem to be "Rating points" as in so called ELO system used for example in many other national rating sytemss
Take a look at Canadian Ratings and rankings for example
Here the ranking number is opposite (or inverse) of rating points

I see it now on TT England ranking system page
But it looks like TTEngland system is similar to ITTF Ranking system and not strict ELO
For example it seems you lose points if you are inactive for a certain period etc
Anyway point weel made, ranking is the opposite of rating and should not be used interchangeably

Re: Ratings and rankings > Is there a difference ?
Please note that USATT has a crazy whacked out system of rankings and ratings
USATT introuced a ranking sytem last year which doe snot seem to have much to do with USATT ratings sytem
This seems to be some sort of particiaption award system which gives lesser weight to to your performace rating it seems
Anyway go to the following yopic to read more on USATT rankings & ratings
You will see links for both & noth their rating & ranking system are explained
Click here to go to that topic page
