Highly technical & extremely controversial topics. Not for the faint of heart

Spin reversal measurements - is everyone (including me) blowing smoke ?

Post by James Z »

I have been proven wrong many times & no problem apologizing for my errors.

That said, it seems there are serious myths in TableTennis and the worst one seems to be about spin reversal (& spin generation)

Most of this comes from some players claiming that slim or long pips have the best reversal .
Anti players claim it has the best reversal.

Spin generation may be harder (if not impossible) to measure but spin reversal measurements should be easier.

You need to set a stationary racket with RUT (Rubber Under Test) on it . Then feed ball from a robot with spin which can be an exact measruement. Then when the RUT returns the ball the spin should be measured.

The racket angle can be vertical or at varying angles.

Of course it would be harder to simulate the quick hand movement as in chop blocking.
But using robotics & AI techniques, this also may be possible.
